When will Clove be Available in Valorant?
Clove originally launched on March 26, 2024, and was added to the game in the 8.05 patch update. Patch 8.05 also adds changes and fixes to Premier, Social, and some bug fixes.
By the time you read this, Clove should be live and unlockable.
How to Unlock Clove in Valorant?
Similar to other heroic agents, Clove follows the same system. There are three ways to unlock and obtain Clove:
Valorant Agent Recruitment Event – With the release of the new Agent Valorant, there is also an updated Agent Recruitment event where you can unlock agents for free by completing the event. Before the heroic agent recruitment event ends, you need to gain 200,000 experience to unlock the latest characters.
Valorant Points – If you prefer a straightforward approach without grinding quests, you can also use Valorant Points to purchase Clove. Unlocking a new agent with Valorant Points will cost you 1,000 VP, which is equivalent to $9.99 or the equivalent in your region.
Kingdom Points – Kingdom Points are the last way to unlock Clove. Once the agent recruitment event ends, you can purchase Clove with 8,000 Kingdom Points. You can earn Kingdom Points by participating in tournaments, winning rounds, and completing daily tasks through the battle pass and agent recruitment events.
Background of Valorant Clove
Based on what little we know about Clove, we can piece together what they will look like as the new Valiant agents. Clove, who hails from Edinburgh, Scotland, was notorious as a “troublemaker”.
One of the biggest reasons she’s so reckless is that she’s immortal. Clove treats death as her plaything, creating a stark contrast in her demeanor and appearance, as she is a young, cheerful, brave character with a dark power emanating from within.
It’s not much of a secret either, as she clearly throws herself into battle with no regard for her own safety.
One of the big themes surrounding Clove is that they’re fearless, in part because she literally can’t die. They’re also a great storyteller, which makes her voice lines and voiceovers fun to listen to in the game.
Overall, Valorant Clove is a welcome change of pace against other characters who may take themselves too seriously.
Valorant Clove’s Abilities
Now we take a look at Clove as Valorant’s new agent, their abilities, and what they can do on the field.
Pick-Me-UP (C) Basic ability
Pick-Me-UP is a healing and buff skill that instantly absorbs the life force of fallen enemies. However, this skill can only be used when she damages or kills an enemy agent.
Successful use of this skill will grant Clove temporary health and “haste”.
This is a bit unconventional, especially for controller agents, as they tend to hang back and support their DPS and tank roles. This ability is the first instance that sets Clove apart from other controllers, as her playstyle leans toward aggressive frontline combat.
Meddle (Q) Basic Ability
Using Clove’s Q skill, Intervention, will equip a “shard” of immortal essence. The thrown ball will detonate after a short delay, and any character within the blast radius will be temporarily affected by the “Decay” debuff.
Simply put, this is a DoT grenade that “poisons” or corrupts agents for a period of time, lowering their HP.
It’s an unassuming ability, but useful enough in an engagement to allow enemy agents to retreat while rotting.
Ruse (E) Signature Ability
Clove’s (E) skill, Subterfuge is their signature skill and when activated, will pull up a mini map of the battlefield. Pressing the “Fire” button will designate a location where Clove’s “clouds” (AKA smoke) will be emitted, and pressing “Alt Fire” will activate the ability.
What’s unique about this skill is that Ruse can still be used even after Lilac is destroyed. This gives Clove a powerful ability to strategically use their abilities after death to change the flow of a turn.
Another benefit is Clove’s aggressive play style.
Not Dead Yet (X) Ultimate Ability
Clove’s ultimate ability (X) is the most powerful weapon in their arsenal. The Undead Ultimate can be activated after Lilac dies, resurrecting them from their graves. However, this recovery may be short-lived.
Once revived, Clove must receive an assist within a set time or be eliminated. Failing to obtain a devastating assist or elimination, Lilac will remain dead.
Judgment
So, having said all that, is Valorant Clove really worth the time and effort to get?
Well, it really depends on your preference and how you play the game. From the beginning, Clove has been oriented towards being more aggressive and fighting from the front. Rather than hanging around behind the other teams, Valorant Clove will often be at the front engaging enemies.
But there is a reason for this.
Their entire kit is oriented towards this style. The Pick-Me-Up skill is a perfect example of this, as Cloves are often in the heat of battle and they need a way to quickly patch themselves up.
Additionally, their other two skills Ruse and Not Dead Yet are backups when Clove is eventually knocked out of the game. Smoke critical points for your team from beyond the grave, or recover with devastating assists or eliminations!
But at heart, Clove is still a controller character and will function accordingly. It’s a welcome change of pace and most players love this character, so now, we can expect them to be a driving force in many teams.
